Members of the Nigerian Senate alongside their counterparts in the House of Representatives whose responsibility it is to oversee the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission (N.D.D.C.) through their respective oversight committee's were extremely pleased to see the contract had been completed on time.
While being shown round the different states they visited for the commissioning by the Acting Managing Director of the N.D.D.C. Dr. (Mrs.) Christy Atako, the legislators expressed happiness at the quality of the fire fighting vehicles supplied, as well as the commitment and speed with which the contractor executed the project. They similarly praised the management of the commission for implementing such a laudable project that would no doubt significantly impact the lives of Nigerians across the region.
They also recommended that the N.D.D.C. in future, only award contracts to similarly efficient and reliable contractors to ensure optimum project delivery across the Niger Delta Region.
The Acting Managing Director of the N.D.D.C. Dr. (Mrs.) Christy Atako, while inspecting some of the trucks at the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service, pointed out that the intervention was to assist the states in combating incidents of fire outbreak. She said that the N.D.D.C. will always work in synergy with the 9 state governments and other agencies towards addressing the developmental needs of the Niger Delta region.
Dr. (Mrs.) Christy Atako explained that her visit was informed by the need for the commission to confirm if the right trucks were delivered to the states. "The N.D.D.C. has a standard, and therefore makes sure that all its facilities, projects and programmes are implemented according to specification". She said that though the trucks were yet to be formally handed over to the 9 state governments, she would urge officials of the fire service to ensure that they were properly maintained.
